A number UK tourist are now opting to travel by ferry as the advantages are quite beneficial in a number of ways. It is said that travel by ferry is more relaxing compared to flying on the basis of the airport security issues, long queues and the fact that you are cramped into small spaces on a number of airlines. Ferries are much more comfortable and service levels have improved dramatically. Ferries now have shops, entertainment areas lunges and a whole host of other options to keep you relaxed all the way.

Variety is large and there are other benefits like being able to take your own car which leaves the worries of baggage restrictions behind.

Global warming is becoming a bigger issue day by day. We are tearing up the world faster than we can preserve it so new ideas are always being formulated to lower the global temperature. A number of issues are being tackled and one I would like to talk about is sea travel. Researchers in Austria and Norway have stated that anyone looking to reduce their carbon footprint should consider travelling options in this order:

• Boats
• Trains
• Buses
• Airplanes
• Cars

Unfortunately it may well be difficult for this industry to pick up as most ships are used for freight now.

Dubai waters soiled

Raw sewage, chemical waste and tides of toilet paper are ruining the famous shorelines of Dubai. What is a prestigious shoreline which attracts thousands of western tourists each year has now become a cess pool and home to a toilet filled with e.coli. Tests have been performed by the offshore sailing club, which has had to cancel a number of regattas.

This is going to come as a huge blow to Dubai’s tourism as it is focused heavily on attracting tourism and business to help its economy once the oil has ran out. As the world knows Dubai is extremely rich and a number of beaches they have are manmade. Let’s see if money and reputation can save them.

Costa cruises and the iphone

Italy’s largest tourism group has created an iphone app. Costa cruises of Italy have created an iphone app which allows tourists to learn everything about Costa before they experience there impressive cruise. The app can be downloaded from Apple ITunes app store and is free, also available in six languages this is a great addition for many tourists travelling with Costa.

It’s good to see many large firms are incorporating the iphone / smart phone technologies into their everyday business. The app allows tourists to view and explore a number of ships and see the rooms facilities and whole lot more.

Sea transport a costs winner

A number of companies are now looking at their transport costs with a view to reducing them exponentially. It seems that transport via sea is becoming a likely opportunity for many businesses in the UK due to the continually rising fuel costs. One company in particular is taking on this avenue for transporting slate. The MD for said slate company states that not only are they saving on costs but the company has also found a new way of being green.

With the ever rising fuel costs sea transport is becoming a favourable form of transport. This will likely see the sea transport business rise in the coming years.

Ferry companies plan to spend £1billion on new ships

Sea travel has never been so popular. The situation regarding the ash cloud which has recently affected air travel has only highlighted the fact that travelling by ferry can be a less stressful and enjoyable way to get around these days.

And to show that indeed sea travel is proving to be in demand, a number of ferry organisations have revealed they are to spend big over the next couple of years on new craft. Many of the top operators have improved their ferry services with schedule changes planned to offer more choice to those travelling by this means of transport.

The news that Stena Line is to continue to invest in its already remarkable fleet, P&O Ferries has two £310million ships in the pipeline and LD Lines has designed the high-speed Norman Arrow ferry means the future is looking very rosy for sea travel.

Growing demand for ferry services

In the last blog post we revealed that Stena Line, the leading ferry operator was to increase its fleet in the near future to meet increasing demand for its services. But why is there a sudden rush towards sea travel all of a sudden?

Stena Line’s general manager for travel, Dermot Cairns revealed that his company had to expand its capacity in order to satisfy the needs of passengers. He added:

“We are seeing a pattern of more and more people coming back to ferries. There has been a definite trend; in June and July last year, we noticed a lot more people booking.”

The recent ash cloud crisis may account for some of the growing demand in recent times, Cairns admitted. However, he also explained that the rapid rise in the cost of car hire has also contributed to the popularity of travelling by ferry.

Stena Line to launch two more ferries

It has recently been reported that Stena Line, one of the world’s largest international ferry operators, is all set to introduce two additional ferries to meet the demand in this rapidly growing market.

These “superferries” are to sail the North Sea and the first to be launched, Stella Hollandica, will set of on its travels on the 16th of May. This will be followed by the launch of Stena Britannica at some point in the autumn.

These ferries will not be the only new introductions for long though. Stena Line is to add more ships on its Belfast route in the near future.
