As if the problem caused by the volcanic ash cloud over Europe was not enough in its self to cause panic amongst air travellers, sea travel operators have largely been unable to help fill the gap due to already full bookings. The situation was highlighted at SeaFrance where French ferry workers took up strike action for five days over the Easter weekend.

All cross-Channel services have been disrupted by this industrial action and now most of its services are full over the coming weekend, with foot passenger bookings the only travel available on Rodin and Berlioz services. These can only be purchased at the port.

Due to the eruption of the Icelandic volcano two days ago the problems caused to air travel in Europe has now seriously impacted on the demand to travel by sea. With many European flights grounded, those people stranded in various countries around the globe are looking to any means to get them back home.

Even with the backlog from the Easter holidays many sea travel operators were almost fully booked already, and now people are looking to this method of travel to get them back sooner.

P&O Ferries have announced that they are putting on a shuttle service for those due to travel in the next few days, but are only promising to accommodate passengers with advanced bookings. Other ferry companies are in similar difficulties with full bookings for at least the next day or so, many until Monday at the earliest.

The gigantic Royal Caribbean cruise ship, which had already won awards since it was first introduced to the world, has now been entered into the Guinness Book of Records for becoming the first cruise ship to set sail with more than 6,000 passengers.

The ship left Fort Lauderdale in Florida on Tuesday to embark on a seven-night cruise with the 6,007 passengers on board, representing 64 different nations. However, only moments before the departure, there were not enough guests to reach this remarkable total.

Great White Shark Part 3

There has been many reports of shark attacks but I’ve never actually seen reports on shark attacking another shark like recently. There was an image displayed on the 26th October of a 10 ft shark with huge chunks taken out of it, the great white shark was nearly bit in half. Reports stated that the attacking shark, was a lot larger at least 5 ft bigger. Now surfers off the Queensland coast are being very cautious with this big fish lurking around.

The great white is seen as a ferocious predator of the ocean and from the other attacks we have seen reported the does look to be one of the vicious ones. At least it wasn’t a human it was attacking!

Great White Shark Part 2

Great whites have a reputation to be a ferocious and vicious predator however not all shark attacks are by great whites. Also studies show that the great white is curious more than anything and majority of Great white attacks is the Great white sampling its victim to see if it is food. Once it has had a taste it realises its not and moves on, so it not actually preying on humans it is simply ‘sample biting’ them. It tends to be swimmers or surfers because in the water from they look like the great whites favourite meal- a mouth watering Seal.

I have never had them before and I always thought that they were like a strong mint. But no, they are some sort of aniceed thing that takes the first layer of your mouth skin and nostrel hair. I think that they should come with serve waring about what  they can do to your health.

are fishermens friends the stuff that gets rubbed against your nose if you get knocked out???

I recon they are, they have to be for how strong they are.

Great White Shark Part 1

The great white shark is an beautiful and endangered species which lives in cool waters- they do not like to hot or too cold waters, however some reports have shown recently that Great whites have been entering waters they have never been seen in before. This could be due to warming waters, if this is the case we may see the few we have left in different locations.

The average size of a great white is 10ft to 15ft long, however there has been records of a great white being 20ft- 6 meters long and weighing 5000 pounds.

They can travel up to 15 miles per hour with the use of their powerful tail and streamline body to help.

A great white can have up to 3000 sharp triangle teeth to help kill and eat its prey.

Worlds biggest Cruiseliner

For years countries have been working on bragging rights for having the worlds largesr cruiseliner. Back in 2003 the 151,410 ton ship called the Queen Mary 2 was the largest cruise liner in the world. This was beaten a couple of years later by a ship called the ‘Freedom of Seas’ which was a massive 154,000 tonnes.

The Royal Caribbean is due to set the bar higher with a ship called the Genesis which is set to be a massive 222,000 tonnes. The Genesis is set to be a massive massive ship, it has three main propellers which are said to be able to swivel 360 degrees! To control the ship the captain simple needs to use a Joystick much better than the way ships use to be controlled. It must seem like a video game
